My New Year's Day Message
You may not know that Gaia, and the everlasting foundations of the gods of Olympus brought Uranus, my ruler, Gaia's equal, out of her own self through parthenogensis. Gaia lay with her with her son, Uranus, and bore the World Ocean. Oceanus, out of which I was reborn and sent to inform the world.
My Gaia friend, Romantic Quality, commented, wisely, on my "New Rules" blog. Romantic Quality shows me that her head is on right. In her profile, she offers two apropos quotes.
"When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid." (Audre Lorde)
"I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward." (Thomas A. Edison)
Just about anything could be better than 2008's economy. In 2008, America suffered the worst economic downturn since 1931. We can blame it all on George W. Bush, but where will that get us? A six month reprieve for the Obama Administration isn't going to do a thing for us. We might as well face reality now and let the Obama Adminstration know we're sick of political gamesmanship in Washington.
We've got a problem that the Obama Administration is not going to make go away. We got to look within for answers. We customarily make New Year's resolutions that concern our own unhealthy behavior. Let's face the fact that we are not created with hive mentality. We've got reason and will-the power to do anything we want with our lives.
The Great Depression followed the 1931 downturn, and persisted until World War II, when the determined American people went back to work. Hey! I was there. I witnessed the Great Depression and World War II. Every good American was out to defend his or her liberty against naked aggression. Make no mistake about it. We, the determined American people, won World War II, not our leaders. So what have they done to us?
It is obvious that a robust economy depends on how the individual feels about the future. We, the American people, during World War II, proved that faith in self is the greatest of powers. Have you ever heard a politician tell you that? No way! They pin roses on themselves. Thanks to the American people's determination, I came home from World War II to a booming economy. I was there, folks! I lived the American dream. What happened? While we enjoyed life, ambitious schemers and connivers took advantage of our prosperity. They built a redistribution empire that guaranteed their reelections.
We would not be making New Year's resolutions were we marching to the beat of the powers-that-be drums. Look at corporate America, especially at financial institutions. We listened and believed. They announced that they had the problem under control. Did they? No! They lied to us and we lost our life savings. In rushed our government saviors, including George W. Bush, with a quick fix. The stock market went into a free fall. We've been lied to by all of them-frauds one and all, who we trusted. We've paid a high price for our trust. Face it! The powers that be do not have answers. They give us shots in the arm-anything to ease the pain and keep their power over us. It's our fault. We gave them authority-with no checks and balances. We looked the other way while they did away with our constitutional protections.
A new administration is about to take charge. It promises to jump-start the economy. All eyes are fixed on Washington. The new administration's answer is a Federal bailout based on Roosevelt's New Deal ideology. It's pathetic! The New Deal kept the depression going from 1933 until the American people were faced with losing their liberty. Roosevelt turned to the American people, asserting that the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor was a day that would live in infamy. The United States declared war on Japan and Hitler declared war on the United States. What a way to end the Great Depression! What the hell does Obama offer the American people in Roosevelt's legacy?
For those who voted the new administration into office, people who are not particularly resourceful, people looking for help from government, people who have been discouraged to cope on their own, people who feel they've been denied an equal opportunity, the jump-start philosophy of the new administration is based on helping those above mentioned allegedly put-upon Americans. It reminds me of the victims of the Holocaust. Many ask why we didn't do something to stop it. It reminds me of those who question using the atom bomb to end World War II. Those Monday morning quarterbacks take no personal responsibility. They leave it to the powers that be to come up with answers. They look to government, not to the economy, for their answers. Just look where it got us.
The economy is based on how the individual feels about it. The Obama administration's jump-start is based on a government managed economy. No, my friends, government does not have the cure for economic hard times. Wealth is not gained by perfecting the known, but by imperfectly seizing the unknown. Hello Roosevelt's New Deal law! No telling how long the hard times will remain for those depending on government's helping hand. I recommend that you read my "New Rules for the New Economy" and then make your New Year's resolutions, of course, with the idea that you are personally responsible for your good or bad fortune.
