Our New Home in Big Valley Woods
My mind is busy, busy, with the problems of getting into our new home. Our home site is great, the only really good site in Big Valley Woods at this time. An abandoned manufactured home was wrecked and moved off. I'm lucky to have taken it before someone else grabbed it.
We had no problem connecting the power. Along with the power, the telephone service is buried. The line had been cut and the end could not be found. The telephone company refused to look for it until I was ready for the service. Everyone passes the buck. I finally subscribed to new service to be installed at once. ( I plan on keeping our present line until we move in.) The telephone company found the line and installed the telephone box.
We turned on the water. No water. The park had to find the problem. Now we've got water.
These sidetracks came after being forced to fire my contractor and find another, requiring that I take out a new manufactured home permit at a cost of $405, and take care of an electric and structural inspection, and a water inspection.
Next came the hassle on the loan. We have excellent credit and paid down far more down than the minimum requirement for a manufactured home. There was absolutely no reason for the delay. Nobody expected it. Thinking it would surely be placed in a day or so, the home was delivered without a mortgage having been placed. The dealer, Santiam Homes, had paid Fleetwood, the manufacturer in full. The home had been set in place. Santiam shut down their agreed to work. Day after day I was told the closing on the loan would be in a day or two. We finally found another lender for Santiam's mortgage broker. After a week's delay, the loan was closed two days ago with another lender, and the work is now being done. (The other lender called us yesterday asking questions. They didn't know we'd changed lenders.)
I've agreed with the new contractor to help with such as painting the skirts. I'm also going to paint the interior before the carpeting is laid. This is to let you know where my mind is at the moment.
Everyone keeps telling me to take a keep breath. I've been retired 20 years. It was bad enough when I had to work for a living. What it must be like to work these days with so few on the ball!
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
that saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
was blind but now I see.
